I have taken aboout a week to finish reading 1st and 2nd Kings, and the first eight chapters of 1st Chronicles.

Starting the 14th round of NT readings which I began last Friday 13/02/26, I read through nineteen chapters of the Gospel according to Matthew.

I have now finished reading about 45% of the OT and 8% of the NT.

Passage for Today
“I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you:
11 when your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne for ever.
13 I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor.
14 I will set him over my house and my kingdom for ever; his throne will be established for ever.”

At last, after a 13-month long journey of readings since early December 2025, I finally completed my 13th Cycle of NT readings on New Year Day 01Jan2026.

Meanwhile I am barely reaching 40% of my targetted 7th Cycle of OT reading after spending 14½ months on it. I'm afraid I'll have to press on until the end of 2026 to finish it. Tomorrow, I will embark on my 14th round of NT reading, planning to complete it together with my OT readings at the end of the year.

Passage for Today
And Samuel said,
“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Today's post is an update of my slow reading over the past three months. I will not be able to complete my 7th round of Old Testament and my 13th round of New Testament reading by the end of this year. (My original target was to finish both 13th and 14th rounds of the NT along with the 7th round of OT.)

Passage for Today
20 But you, beloved, keep building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.
21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
22 On some have compassion, making a distinction,
23 and some save, snatching them out of the fire with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh.
24 Now to him who is able to keep them from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory in great joy,
25 to God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.

I have managed to gain some ground over the last four days of Bible Reading. In the Old Testament, I have finished the Book of Judges, while in the New Testament, I have read through Titus, Philemon, and Hebrews.

Tomorrow, I will proceed with the Book of Ruth in the OT and the Epistle General of James in the NT

Passage for Today
17 Then Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, What is your name, so that when your words come true we may give you honour?
18 But the angel of the Lord said to him, Why are you questioning me about my name, seeing that it is a wonder?

Picking up some longer passages of reading today, and hoping to gain further momentum towards the coming weekend, I have finished reading Joshua followed by the first three chapters of Judges in the Old Testament. At the same time, in the New Testament, I have moved on from Philippians and Colossians to read through First and Second Thessalonians, and also the pastoral Epistles First and Second Timothy.

Tomorrow, I will begin reading another pastoral Epistle of Paul — the Epistle to Titus.

Passage for Today
Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, Justified in the spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the nations, Believed on in the world, And received up in glory.

Reading has continued to be slow and frequently interrupted through the months of July and the first two weeks of August. In the New Testament, I finished reading the Second Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians followed by the entire Epistles to the Galatians and to the Ephesians. In the Old Testament I have covered the first thirteen chapters of the Book of Joshua.

Passage for Today
For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

From the end of May, through the entire month of June, and now the first week of July, my Bible readings have be slow and intermittent. I hope to do some catching up yet again in the coming months of the year, in an attempt to meet my target of completing the 7th round of OT and the 13th and 14th rounds of NT by the end of the year.

Passage for Today
15 Behold, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil;
16 in that I command you this day to love Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.

17 But if your heart turn away, and you will not hear, but shall be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them;
18 I denounce to you this day, that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land, where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.

19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse: therefore choose life, that you may live, you and your seed;
20 to love Yahweh your God, to obey his voice, and to cleave to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days; that you may dwell in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

Deuteronomy 30:15 – 20

I am reminded of the "Second Covenant" which Moses wrote down in a book in the plains of Moab.

The "First Covenant" of Yehovah with the Children of Israel was first given through Moses at Sinai in the land of Horeb (Exodus 19 - 24). In today's passage, we read that it was then renewed in the land of Moab (Deuteronomy 28 - 31) before Moses passed away. Subsequently, Joshua led the Israelites to renew their covenant again, the "Third Covenant" with Yehovah at Shechem (Joshua 24:25 - 27). See links to my devotional posts below —
